The Top Load Washer Lid Switch Assembly ensures that the washer door is closed while the washer is spinning. If the lid switch is broken, the washer will not spin. If the washer won't spin but will still agitate, the lid switch may be defective. Sometimes the body of the switch cracks from slamming the washer lid over time, or the internal switch fails and is no longer able to tell the washer the lid is closed. Remove the inner screws on the top of the console and pull the console down to access the part. Note: When disconnecting the wires from the old assembly, make sure you note which wires go where. Also, when securing the new assembly with its 5/16-inch screw, make sure your switch adjustment is correct when tightening by waiting for the click of the black switch. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the washer and novice repair experience. Remember to unplug the washer or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part. Also make sure to turn off your hot and cold water supplies. Helpful Tip: We also recommend using affresh® Washing Machine Cleaner* (item W10501250) once a month to help reduce odor-causing residue that can build up in your washing machine's drain without proper care. *affresh® brand products are owned and distributed by Whirlpool Corporation.
